22 April 2018, 10:00 - 15:00 (Add to calendar)

An introduction to beekeeping with Hannah Reeves, professional beekeeper, who manages the apiary at Tewin Orchard Nature Reserve.

This one day workshop will give you an overview of the craft of beekeeping.

Course Outline:
The 5 hour course will begin by spending the morning learning the basic theory of beekeeping, looking at the equipment and discussing the role of the beekeeper. After lunch, the afternoon will be spent in the orchard with a session of practical beekeeping. We will finish by tasting a selection of local honeys.

This course will provide a basis of understanding of what is involved in becoming a beekeeper and whether this is a hobby you wish to pursue. Protective beekeeping suits and gloves will be provided.

10:00 – 12:00: Theoretical session and questions.

12:00 – 13:00: Lunch break (bring your packed lunch, hot drinks will be available), then a walk over to Tewin Orchard to get everyone suited up.

13:00 – 15:00: Practical beekeeping session and honey tasting, walk back to the Pavilion.
